June is National Smile Month

May 26, 2020

June is National Smile Month! Right now, our world looks and feels different – filled with uncertainty and many unknowns. The one thing that we at Delta Dental know for sure is – how powerful and meaningful it is to still smile at each other.

A smile can lift a person’s spirits. A smile can help alleviate stress. Even while wearing a mask, people can still see your smile in the crinkles around your eyes. Smiling costs nothing, and truly is priceless.

We’ve put together a list of ways you can celebrate National Smile Month – all while continuing to practice social distancing.

10 Acts of Kindness to Make Someone Smile During National Smile Month!

  1. Send a card to a loved one letting them know why they make you smile
  2. Make time to call the people you love and let them know you love them
  3. Email or write to a former teacher who has made a difference in your life
  4. Write a note of appreciation for your mail carrier
  5. Write a positive review online
  6. Help your neighbors by wheeling out their trash bins
  7. Say thank you to an essential worker the next time you’re at the grocery store
  8. Do something special that you know your significant other will appreciate
  9. Look through your contacts in your phone and randomly send a friend a nice text message
  10. Share your favorite recipe via your social media channels

Lend a Hand – and a Smile: Virtual Volunteering!

We believe in empowering smiles through volunteering. And, while right now we cannot lend a hand in person, there are many virtual volunteering opportunities to consider.

  1. Points of Light offers various remote volunteer opportunities. Select ‘remote’ in the dropdown and then filter by issue (animals, children, fundraising, and more!) to see the various ways you can help while practicing social distancing.
  2. Junior Achievement New Jersey is offering Video Fireside Chats – a way for you to tell your story while inspiring and empowering our future leaders.
  3. United Way Day of Action – on June 21st, the day with the most hours of sunlight, is the perfect day to set aside some time to give back. Learn more about volunteering opportunities, including volunteer opportunities related to helping out due to COVID-19, as well as guidance on staying safe while volunteering.
