Redesigned ADA Web Site Provides Oral Health Lesson Plans, Presentations, Games and More

The American Dental Association (ADA) recently redesigned its Web site to include more resources than ever for teachers.

Some of the resources include:
  • Age-appropriate presentations. The site includes four lessons: Talking About Teeth (for preschool and grade 1), There's Magic in Your Smile (grades 2-4), Smile Power (grades 4-6) and Smile Appeal (grades 7-12).
  • Games and animations. One feature is an interactive story designed for students through second grade, called Visit the Dentist with Marty. The story shows what Marty sees and experiences during his trip to the dentist. Students can click on an object to learn more about it.
  • Science experiments. One experiment demonstrates how dental sealants protect chewing surfaces of teeth, using two antacid tablets, vinegar, two small paper cups and a small piece of plastic wrap.

To access ADA Classroom Ideas & Resources, go to www.ada.org; click "Your Oral Health," then "Students & Teachers" on the left navigation bar; then "Teachers" on the left navigation bar; then "Classroom Ideas & Resources" on the left navigation bar.
