PATRON OF HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENT" BY THE
COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF NEW JERSEY
-Delta Dental has gifted over $500,000 in one year's time to benefit dental clinics
throughout New Jersey to offer underserved access to dental care-
PARSIPPANY, NJ (November 30, 2005) – The
Delta Dental of New Jersey Foundation has recently
been named
"Corporate Patron of Health and Environment" by
the Community Foundation of New Jersey for its
commitment to providing oral healthcare to those
throughout the state without access to dental
benefits or to adequate dental care. During the
award review period, September 1, 2004 through
August 31, 2005, the Delta Dental Foundation
granted more than $500,000 to clinics and other
facilities throughout the state.
The Delta Dental Foundation was awarded $5,000
to re-gift to a non-profit organization of its
choice during an award ceremony at the Newark
Museum in November. Delta Dental chose Matheny
Medical and Educational Center and the New Jersey
Foundation of Dentistry for Persons with Disabilities.
"Our mission at Delta Dental is to promote
oral health to the greatest number of people
by providing accessible dental programs of the
highest quality, service and value. Since the
Foundation's inception in 1986, we have partnered
with many dental clinics and dental education
facilities throughout New Jersey, offering underserved
populations access to dental care," said
Gerald Sydell, D.D.S., vice president of the
Delta Dental of New Jersey Foundation. "Through
our partnerships, these facilities have been
able to provide ongoing dental care while meeting
the special needs of their patients."
The Delta Dental of New Jersey Foundation supports
clinics that treat those most at risk throughout
the state including:
- Eric B. Chandler Health Clinic in New Brunswick,
which treats 2,000 school children
- Eva's Village in Paterson, which provides
dental care to the homeless
- Dover Community Clinic, which provides dental
care to low-income families
- East Orange Health and Human Services Dental
Clinic, which provides general dental health
education, dental screenings and dental treatment
to children and parents of East Orange
- Henry J. Austin Health Center in Trenton,
which serves over 3,000 patients in its dental
care program
- Hudson County Dental Society, which participated
in treating children through the national "Give
Kids a Smile Day"
- Matheny Medical and Educational Center in
Peapack, a residential facility for children
and adults with developmental disabilities
- Morristown Memorial Hospital Dental Clinic,
which treats more than 2,000 low-income patients,
including developmentally disabled patients
- New Jersey Foundation of Dentistry for Persons
with Disabilities, which promotes access to
dental care for the elderly and for mentally
and physically disabled patients of all ages
through donated dental services
- NORWESCAP, which treats 1,500 low-income
patients at the Newton clinic
- Ocean Health Initiatives in Lakewood, which
treats more than 1,000 low-income patients
- Paterson Public Schools, Office of Dental
Services, which treats more than 400 school
children from low-income families
- UMDNJ Helping Hands for Kids program, which
offers preventive therapy and oral health education
to 50 children at the Scotch Plains dental
facility
- Virtua Health/West Jersey Hospital in Camden,
which treats more than 1,000 low-income patients
The Community Foundation of New Jersey is a
$130 million philanthropic organization of businesses,
families and foundations that have partnered
with the Community Foundation to increase the
effectiveness of their charitable donations.
The Community Foundation was started in 1979
and has presented its awards since 1990. In the
past six years, the Community Foundation has
granted over $65 million and holds over 700 charitable
funds.
