| February is
National Children's Dental Health Month, a time to focus
kids' attention on the importance of oral health to their
overall health.
This year's
slogan is "A Healthy Smile is Something to Cheer."
The American
Dental Association offers free resources to help teach
children about taking care of their teeth.
Looking for
stories to read to children? The ADA site features an
interactive story for kids from preschool to grade 2
called, "A Visit to the Dentist with Marty." Children can
listen or read along as Marty takes a trip to the dentist
with his mom. Go to
http://www.ada.org/public/games/story.asp.
The ADA offers
numerous classroom ideas and resources online
(www.ada.org/public/education/teachers/ideas.asp),
including presentations geared for students from preschool
to high school.
Help children
reinforce their oral health learning with an assortment
downloadable coloring and activity sheets
(www.ada.org/public/events/ncdhm/index.asp). Activities
include word jumbles, puzzles, mazes, calendars and
fill-in-the-blank stories.
The site also
features visual demonstrations to show children how to
brush and floss. Go to
http://www.ada.org/public/games/animation/interface.asp.
