| Two Boston-based nonprofit
organizations, Community Catalyst and Health Care for
All, have developed a guide to help schools and
organizations develop programs to improve the oral
health of people in their communities.
Addressing Oral Health Needs: A
How to Guide looks at the issue of people's access
to oral health, and provides case studies of successful
programs in schools, community centers and elsewhere. It
was developed to address the "silent epidemic of
dental and oral diseases," which affects many
people in the United States, according to the U.S.
Surgeon General's report Oral Health in America: A
Report of the Surgeon General.
The guide is intended to provide
ideas for extending current programs or starting new
oral health initiatives in schools and communities.
Among the programs profiled are two school-based
programs.
