What Dentist Credentialing Means to You

Every participating dentist with Delta Dental Plan of New Jersey must undergo periodic credentialing to remain part of our network.

We started our credentialing program three years ago in response to a growing trend toward patient protection measures at both the state and federal levels. This trend is reflective of demands for increased accountability regarding administration of dental programs. One key patient protection measure that helps respond to these demands is the credentialing of dentists who participate in the various types of dental programs offered by insurers and other third-party payers.

Delta Dental's credentialing questionnaire asks dentists for general office information and specific information about their dental licenses, specialty certifications, insurance coverage and infection control policies. Each dentist in a practice must submit a separate questionnaire.

The process of verifying credentials is conceptually consistent with patient protection laws supported by organized dentistry.
