| In the late 1800s, New York
dentist Pearl Grey decided to try his hand at writing.
Undaunted when no one wanted to publish his first book,
he published it himself in 1904. The book gained critical
success. The dentist closed his practice, adopted the
pen name Zane Grey and ultimately became one of America's
best-known and prolific authors of Westerns. Grey wrote
more than 60 books, including Riders of the Purple
Sage, which sold 2 million copies and was filmed
three times. |
