| Back in the 1970s, Dr. Ted
Apes, a dentist in Smyrna, Georgia, told all his young
patients that if any of them ever won a major award
- like the Heisman Trophy, Rhodes Scholarship or Academy
Award - he would give every child in town a tube of
toothpaste. More than 25 years later, former patient
Julia Roberts received the Best Actress Oscar for Erin
Brockovich. We don't know whether Dr. Apes is responsible
for Roberts' famous smile, but we do know that he distributed
more than 10,000 tubes of toothpaste to Smyrna townsfolk
in her honor. |
