Mark Nadeau, Delta Dental Plan of New Jersey's director
of Marketing, has been named chairman of the Marketing
and Business Development Committee for the Delta
Dental Plans Association (DDPA).
DDPA is
an association of Delta Dental Plans nationwide that
studies a number of large-scale issues that affect
many Plans.
The Marketing and Business
Development Committee is working on several initiatives,
including a national broker/consultant study. "We're attempting to find
out what some of the larger consulting houses like
about Delta Dental and what they'd like to see improved," says
Mark.
"Many of the top consulting agencies have already
been contacted."
Results of that study will be used to develop more
broker-friendly programs throughout the country.
The committee is also completing work on a national
satisfaction survey. Also in the works is the development
of a comprehensive RFP database library, which will
include answers to frequently asked questions and
concerns.
Mark joined Delta Dental eight years ago and opened
Delta Dental of New Jersey's Connecticut office.
Previously he was national sales manager for group
insurance at Monarch Life in Massachusetts. He joined
the Marketing and Business Development Committee
two years ago and was named chairman in April.

Rain
Dampens Golf Classic, But Not Generosity
Thunder, lightning and torrential rains forced the
cancellation of the ninth annual Delta Dental Classic
on May 24. But disappointed golfers focused on the
reason behind the event: to raise funds for the Special
Olympics New Jersey.
Despite being unable to play, golfers and sponsors
at this year's golf-less Classic raised $50,000 for
Special Olympics programs. To date, we have raised
$225,000 for Special Olympics from our annual event.
Through the kindness of Cherry Valley Country Club,
all golfers will receive a voucher for lunch and
a round of golf, to be used at their convenience.
Special thanks to all our participating brokers,
including LDP Consulting and Allen Associates.
Next year's Delta Dental Classic will take place
Tuesday, June 6, 2000-under what we hope are sunny
skies!

Joan
Canace: The Face Behind the Voice
When brokers call Delta Dental, Joan Canace's voice
is one of the first to greet them. Joan joined Delta
Dental in March as Marketing secretary, and she is
the first point of contact for broker questions or
requests.
"My job is to get brokers the information they need
when they need it, and help them the best way I can," she
says.
On a typical day she fields calls from about 20
brokers, who request everything from Delta Dental
rates for various-sized groups, to enrollment forms,
dentist directories and other supplies. If a broker
needs a quote for a group larger than 100 subscribers,
she connects them with the appropriate account executive.
For smaller groups, Joan will fax the quotes and
then transfer callers to Lena Gelfenbeyn, who handles
small groups.
Joan previously worked
for her brother's construction firm in Peapack.
She joined Delta Dental because she wanted to work
in a larger office, with more colleagues and responsibilities.
"Working for my brother was great, but it was just
the two of us in the office. I missed interacting
with lots of people. That's why I like the customer
service end of this job. I enjoy talking to people,
both the brokers and the people I work with."
In her spare time, Joan
studies jazz dancing and hopes someday to become
a choreographer. She took it up several years ago
after going dancing with some friends and became
hooked. "I have dancing in
my head," she says. "It's become my passion."
A resident of Morris Township, Joan is the mother
of a 12-year-old son, Christopher.
